Two new Canons for Salford Diocese
Salford Cathedral Chapter - new appoinments

The Right Reverend Terence Brain has recently appointed and installed two new canons to Salford Cathedral Chapter.

Canon Alan Denneny the Rural Dean of St Chad's Deanery and parish priest of Christ the King, Newton Heath, was installed at the Cathedral Chapter's Mass on the 4th February.

Canon David Lupton the Rural Dean of St Bede's Deanery and
parish priest of St James the Less, Rawtenstall, was installed at the Cathedral Chapter's Mass on the 4th March.

Bishop Terence Brain installs the Rev David Lupton to
Salford Cathedral Chapter.
In welcoming the new Canons, Bishop Brain explained about the historic background and role of the Cathedral Chapter. In former times, Chapters performed a broader role in dioceses which, today, is more divested. However, it is still a prime responsibility of Chapters to guide the appointment of a new Diocesan Bishop whenever required.

Each new Canon also received a warm welcome from the fellow Canons of the Chapter which included Vicar General Mgr. Canon Mark Davies, Provost Mgr. Canon Michael Quinlan and Cathedral Dean Canon T. Antony McBride. Many parishioners, family, and friends of each priest had joined them on the day to share, and contribute, to the warmth and the joy of the wonderful occasions.

Congratulations to Canons Denneny and Lupton,
we wish them every for success in their new role and continued ministry.
