Three generations of the Hoyle family pounded the pathways of Manchester's Heaton Park last Sunday to help raise hundreds of pounds for the developing world.

Grandfather Noel Hoyle, 66, ran in the 5km run with daughter Clare and grandchildren Oliver and Emily, while wife Carole did the 2km walk with their two other grandchildren Holly and Lucy.

Noel, a novice runner, of St. Mary's Terrace, Rawtenstall, said: "It was quite a pleasant day and there were quite a lot of people there from different parishes in Salford.  We were helping people to help themselves."

The active family, pictured, were joined by friends from the Justice and Peace group at St. James the Less Church in Rawtenstall.  During the day they raised a total of almost £400 for Cafod, the Catholic Fund for Overseas Development.

Justice and Peace group secretary Sheilah Whittle said: "The greatest thing was to see the young ones actually doing the run.  Noel's grandson Oliver came eighth-and it was the first time he'd run it.  I don't think he'd trained much so he was quite amazed at how he ran.

The Justice and Peace group hold a regular fundraising coffee morning at the church on the second Sunday of every month.
